Being fair to that LFS, here is that same tank as of yesterday. I'm still not a fan of the scape, but it looks 100x better.

It's much better than before but the PVC pipe holes stick out like a sore thumb. No doubt the fish use them but it looks very unnatural.

DSC_4643_0515_edited-3.jpg I used large rock on the bottom and flatter rock on top. no need for rods. by the way, you can cut up plastic cloths hangers. they are safe and cheap. I went for caves instead of arches as I think they are better for the fish. mine go all the way through the rocks. not the greatest looking scape, but my fish seem happy so I'm afraid to change anything. thinking of adding a few rocks on one island.
