Can you provide a larger pic? It is hard to see but it may be derbesia or cladophora.....yes to macro algae, yes to nuisance algae (relating to these 2 types). These are a couple of the types that have been dubbed "hair" algae.

This is the best picture I have. It is very course and sturdy. My tang will pic at it to eat. It also seems slow growing. I will keep a eye on it. Thanks.

looks like bryopsis to me, sounds and looks like cladophora though, so i go with cladophora.

OK so there seems to be agreement it is some type of hair algae. I looked up all the names shown and it does not seem to match the picture. This algae is very tight to the rock and has been slow growing.

Sounds like it is not good so I guess I will read some tips for reducing / eliminating it. Thanks.

If your Purple Tang isn't eating it, then it must be something out of the ordinary. Perhaps some kind of green turf algae?
