How to catch a lantern basslet?

Anyone have any ideas to catch this guy? I recently purchased a yellow head jawfish and the basslet killed him. Tank is a RSM 250 with plenty of live rock. I thought this would be enough space but apparently not. Want to take the basslet back to my lfs but he isn't easy to catch. Am I just stuck with him?

eek good luck.. time and patience... I have caught a few fish. sometimes it involves food in a CLEAR apparatus so they actually swim into it, someitmtes its removing some rocks so less hiding places... good luck

This is the best fish trap I have ever seen used. I had to get one myself after seeing it used. I think it works so well because it is almost invisible in the water. It also has many other uses.

I thought I bought mine from Drs. F&S, but couldn't find it on their site. http://www.marinedepot.com/Reef_Gen...Aquariums-Reef_Gently-RG1111-FIMIATTK-vi.html

It could have been Marine Depot or maybe it was BRS? http://aquarium.bulkreefsupply.com/search?w=reef gently acclimate

I watched the video but it seems this is for transporting or acclimating new fish. Not trapping a fish from the DT

Well, I must be wrong then. It was all the rave being passed around the local reef club as a fish trap. We must all be confused.

yah I have used that same one, it is great, clear box with a door is the best, that's what I meant by clear apparatus I just didn't have the recall of mike to remember the name and link haha

Right. It has a trap door. You have to drop the door yourself, but it lets you catch the right fish and leave the others alone. I don't know why they don't show the trapping option in their video.

After a long time trying I finally caught him. Turns out the old coke bottle with inverted cut top trick with a little brine shrimp was the answer. My problem now is my LFS is closed mondays. What is the best way to keep him alive overnight? The only thing I have to keep him in is a 5 gallon bucket. Its filled about a third of the way. Unfortunately, I do not have a heater but do have a small circulation pump. Should i put that in and add fresh salt water from time to time?

Congratulations! I spent almost $70 on the easy aclimater/trap and I still can't catch the two yellow/black striped chromis in my reef tank. I've literally caught every other fish at one time or another, but these two just won't go it, they're too darn smart. I've tried the soda bottle, the new trap, and I'm about ready to get a taser and zap the entire tank to get these suckers. They're terrorizing every fish in my tank.

Thanks Steve. I purchased a fish trap thinking that was the way to go but no good. Could have saved my self $40 by trying the bottle first. I know how u feel. It's so frustrating watching them attack your livestock. He killed my jawfish and I couldn't understand where my peppermint shrimp kept going until I put two more in the tank the other day. Within 5 minutes, the basslet had eaten both whole. I could see the tentacles hanging out of his mouth as he swam around the tank taunting me. He goes back to my LFS today!
