I was looking at my tank and this huge black thing jumped up and blinded me with some serious bioluminescence!

Any idea what it is?

its a canoncus costicus tomuchicus

its easily reconized by the marking above its highly sensitive eye. there are many in the genus but this species is well known, but only kept by dedicated specialists.

it as well as others in the family blind their prey with a vibrant flash to freeze them in place.

Aren't they the aquatic cousin of the dreaded photographicus papparizzi-variegata?

Many people think those should be exterminated when ever and where ever possible...

I will be right over Trav, to properly dispose of it. 2.2 lbs of C-4 should be enough :D You will need some ear-muffes  It is a CBL ( Creature from the Black Lagoon), I thought I got them all, must be still one left.

Travis I made a special trap for this critter and will be right over.
I have heard if you don't take care of this right away it will spawn a new Canon 20D with out lens.

Way too scary Trav. I could only look at it for a minute and then had to hide behind the couch . . . . . LOL
