Gurgle Question

Hi all I setup my 150 gal tank and I've got the gurgling noise in my overflow. My drain is an open pipe.. So my question is can I just add an elbow to the pipe to quiet the noise?? I have three holes in my overflow.. 1 inch bulkhead for the durso and two 3/4 bulkheads. One for the emergency drain and the other is the pump..

An elbow will not work, I tried it on my 30 gallon frag tank. You have two choices, you can make a duroso stand pipe or you can add a pvc sleeve (slip/slip) to the top of the pipe but first cut angled slices thru it so that you create a vortex (spin) to the water.

I use a length of airline tubing run down my drain.

Get a piece long enough to reach the sump, then slowly pull it back up until the gurgling stops. Then just secure the airline to the side of the overflow... I use a clothespin.

Try the coupler....

Cut slots in it like this.

No, take a PVC coupler for you drain pipe size, cut slots in it like shown above all the way around it, then slip the coupler over the end of your drain pipe.
