I've had my GSP for about 4 weeks. It has become more open and full since I put it in, but 4 days ago the polyps closed up and didn't come back out. I haven't made any changes or added anything else. There is a main mat on the rock that is closed up, but there are two other smaller pieces that aren't connected to the main mat and they are open.
Is it normal for GSP to pout for a little while?
These are my most recent test results...
NO3 - 1 mg/L
PO4 - 0
Ca - 350 (yikes!)
Alk - dKH 10.7, 3.7 meq/L
pH - 8.28
I - 0.01 mg/L
SG - 1.026 (34ppt)
T - 78.1 F
My Ca is low, but would that make the GSP mad? I'm already working on bringing that up. It's a new batch of IO, and I've heard others talking about low Ca, so I'll have to test my newly mixed water...
My Iodine is low too, I thought this might be the culprit. I quit dosing Iodine a while back because I overdosed and killed some stuff. But, I added some xenia at the same time as the GSP and I think it is sucking up my Iodine. I did a water change and dosed a tiny bit of Iodine and I'll do another water change tomorrow. I would rather do more frequent water changes than dose that stuff.
What really gets me is the fact that all the GSP is not affected, only one contiguous mat. I wondered if closing up for a while is normal, like when leathers close up. I'll put a picture up in a few minutes.
