FOWLR Hyposalinity

I have removed my fish to a hospital tank to treat for ich and bacterial infection. In another tank I removed fish and left tank empty for 8weeks and ich returned so with this tank I would like to try hyposalinity, is there any reason not to? For how long?

Sorry, not seeing the answers I am looking for. There are no fish in my DT, how long does it need to stay at 1.009 without a host?
