How do you know if you need a T-5, T-8, or T-12 bulb? I need to replace a single 24" tube, but I just realized that it comes in T-8 and T-12. All I had to worry about when I used PC was whether it was square or straight pins. :dunno:

T-5 T-8 and T-12 is the diamater of the bulb in 8ths of an inch.... In other words a T5 is 5/8ths of an inch, a T8 is 8/8ths or 1 inch and a T12 is 12/8ths or 1 and 1/2 inch......

Thank You Thank You! Would you believe two of the mail order shops that I called weren't able to give me the answer?

T8 and T12 bulbs have the same pin. The T5 has a smaller pin.
The T8 is more energy efficient than the T12... putting out same amount of light, while using less electricity.
You could go with either, but I would go with the T8.

Check the ballast, they have the bulb rating on it. Some ballast can utilize differing bulb lengths and nuber of bulbs. for t8 and t12 anyway.
