Filter question

I have a 30 gallon freshwater tank and want to change it over to a saltwater tank. Question is can i use the Whisper 150 Bio Wheel filter thats on it or do i need to change it to a wet dry filter? I know i need a power head and a different light to do corals. Just wondering about the filter.

yes you can, but should you? is the question. You need to decide what kind of tank you want... fish only, fish with rock or a reef

Just a few small fish and some rock. Maybe 1 or 2 corals. Not a whole lot.

it can work, you will find there is a lot more muck involved than with fresh and those wheels become nitrate suppliers quickly and that fuels algae growth, live rock and a good skimmer is much better

Just a protein skimmer? How would i run that? Sorry for all the questions. I'm so new at this.

protein skimmer and live rock are the fundamentals of a reef system, thats the filter, period, no mechanical needed
