I was at the LFS ready to spend xmas money on a overflow and a sump. The guy there told my to get a Eheim Pro II filter instead, I didn't buy anything couldn't get a good answer why it was better than a sump filter. Any input on what setup would be best? Thanks

Hi Pyro, from what I could see this is a fresh water filter, and woof, a pricey one, think you could do a lot more for your money, at the very least with a sump you get extra equip room, plus added water volume, my tanks are all bottom plumbed so couldnt tell you anything about overflows. Steve

Eheim makes a good canister filter, they're just no good for reef tanks. Great biological and mechanical filters, but that also makes them nitrate factories. You'd get far more use out of an overflow and sump, than you would a canister filter. Good place to keep your misc. equipment, like skimmer and heater, you can turn part of it into a refugium, and the extra water volume is good for stability.
