I got this guy about three weeks ago and have two questions. First is it normal for them to "drop" one of their claws? Now it looks like there is a tiny stub in its place. Second question I have just watched it switch to a bigger shell twice and then back into its origanal shell and it looks like its about to do it again. Why is it doing that?

The claw will grow back. Hermits very frequently change shells and go back and forth a lot. I have no idea why but can be fun to watch.

Does your hermit have other shells to "try on"? It's obviously looking for a new one, but found out it preferred the old one.
