Hi,

Woke up this morning and realized I have a ball of what looks like fish eggs.
They are all together and have a slight purple tint to them.

I have the following fish
2 sailfin tangs
1 flame angel
1 spotted gruper
1 foxface
1 angel fish
1 wolf eel

I tried to look for information online but, cant seem to be able to identify them.

Any thoughts?

I was able to get a nursery tank. Will continue to update progress as I get information. My guess is it has to be the 2 sailfin tangs. I have had them together for a while and I know it can take time for them to mate together.

Great Idea....give it a shot....
You will need to find/make appropriate food for the fry.
I only do Ocellaris, I wish I could help further.....I would love to hear what happens!
Keep us posted....raising fry is the most challenging part of this hobby

I doubt that your sailfin tangs spawned. First off, you'd need a large mature pair. Most people don't have that. Also, from what little I could find, tangs release their eggs in open water, so there would not be a cluster of eggs.

Since the eggs are in a cluster, I'd suspect that that the eggs are from snails or another invert. Fish eggs tend to be in a single layer. Often snail eggs look like they are covered in a mass of jelly, so it's possible they are something else.

About all you can do is wait and see if anything hatches. If they are fish eggs, your chances of raising them are almost nil, since you need to have those cultures of algae and/or plankton going long before spawning.

I too have never authicated anyone raising tangs before but who knows, this hobby is full of surprises...I am lucky that I have a specialists store for corals which sell live Copepods needed for raising clowns, fire, and skunk shrimps, without this food for at least 14 days, not possible.

But I am curious...tell us what pops out...
