Dosing

Does anyone dose magnesium or strontium? How do you do it, and why? I'm looking into the benefits of dosing additives besides Kalk to my system.

only mag for me as the kalk depletes it, seems to stay pretty stable

I only add mag is the test result say I should. I think I have only had to do it once or twice. When I do, I use Epson Salt. That seems to be a reliable and inexpensive way to do it.
I have never dosed Stronium and have no test for it. I have always assumed my water changes take care of that.

I dose magnesium and I want to begin dosing strontium soon.

How do I do it?

• I shoot for a mg level of 1350 per this article: Reef Aquarium Water Parameters by Randy Holmes-Farley - Reefkeeping.com
• I test my reef using a sailifert test kit
• Determine how much magnesium my reef needs using this calculator: 'Reef Chemistry Calculator FV'
• Then dose as needed with magnesium

I have read many times from Randy H-F that you donot need to dose Stro. with regular water changes, MG once at the propper levels stays there pretty easy, I NEVER heard that Kalk depleats Mg. Just remember, if you do not test for it DONOT dose it. MG is a salt so if you dose it keep an eye on SG.
