Do I need to help My tank Cycle?

I have been doing more reading on this website and have learned alot. One thing im just a bit confused on is when they say throw a piece of shrimp in the tank to start it to cycle faster. We have had our 29g Bio cube set up since last night. Temp is right on and so is the salt. Raised it from 1.021 to 1.026 today. I suppose the question that im trying to get at is should I just leave it alone and let it cycle or throw a shrimp in? Thanks for all of the help.

The decay will help it cycle.

The bacteria you need to develop need something to feed on in order to mutiply. The shrimp gives them a food source. As the shrimp decays it causes your ammonia to rise and the bacteria will cause it to fall as their population grows.
