Hi everyone.

I woke up this morning in horror to see brown staining on top of the sand in a couple of places.:waa:
:coffee2:After researching it on RS, I've identified it as Diatoms and after reading more about it :read:I'm a lot more at ease.
:woohoo:PANIC OVER!!!:woohoo:

:ofr:The only thing I am curious about is that four of the snails have slept together, whilst the other two went elsewhere.
The Diatoms are only on the sand above the three spots where the snails have bed-down.

So is the Diatom created by waste produced by the snails themselves?:ponder2:

Will the Nassarius snails eat their own waste if that's what it is, or will I need to add a new member to the CUC???:dunno:

Diatoms are almost a prerequisite in a maturing tank. They will run their course. Regular water changes should get them under control as they use up the excess silicates and nutrients in a newly cycled tank.
