creeping Gelidium sp. question?

Hey everyone,

Ive got some Gelidium that is creeping via runners on my live rock. It's very tough and hard to get off. Ive had to pull rocks out, and scrub with a metal brush or scrape at the rock with a knife. My hermits and snails wont seem to touch the stuff. Ive read online that emerald crabs might eat this type of algae? Do you think it's worth putting an emerald in the tank? Or do you think the crab will start messing with corals etc.?

Thanks for any tips on this annoying algae!

Cheers,

Sean

Join the crowd... I have a tank FULL of it and I'm just starting the battle.

For now, I've added a Tuxedo Urchin who seems to enjoy the taste of it. I hear that Mexican Turbo Snails also are very good for wiping this out (read this morning about a guy with a 700 gallon display that was FULL of Gelidium which he wiped out in 4 weeks with Mex Turbos).
