Building a refugium/sump out of two 20 gl tanks

I was curious to know if it is possible to use two tanks and connect them together. I was thinking I could use two 20 gallon tanks. I could use one for a 20 gl refugium and the other for a 20 gl sump for protein skimmer,heater etc. I am going to have my display tank upstairs and run the plumbing down the walls into the basement. I will have plenty or room to build in the basement. I can keep some of the mess down there. Let me know what you think. I would love to hear any ideas

yes it is possible. The best way to do that is to plumb them togeter by drilling bulkheads into the sides of the tanks

Thats exactly what I did. I'm using a 20L for my sump and a 20H for a refugium. The 20L sump sits on the floor. The 20H refugium sits on a stand I made out of 4x4 fence posts to elevate it a little higher.
