best macro

i was told by a marine biologist that it would take roughly 30 mangroves to export the same amount as a soft ball sized clump of calurpa. with chaeto coming in second.

Chaeto and gracillaria both work well. I grow both in my refugium along with mangroves. Chaeto growing among mangrove roots is very natural.

Caulerpa works well too but t can also cause problems as well.

Very unlikely. I had a tank that I only dosed phyto maybe once a week, no feeding, and had lots of macros growing together well. Chaeto, red gracillaria, halymenia, nemastoma, sargassum, dictyota, ulva, and a couple others.

If I had to pick, I'd use chaeto, red gracillaria, and ulva. Chaeto and ulva grow fast, and if you have herbivorous fish they will love to snack on the gracillaria and ulva when you have extra, and all three can grow free-floating. Not to mention that pods love chaeto to live in and ulva to snack on as well.
