What is the general consensus on the quality of the AquaMedic Ocean light pendants (i.e.-reflector quality and overall build quality)? I'm looking at a used 250w model but really have no experience with them.

I had the AM 2X 250 watt + 2X 54 Watt T5.
I loved it. Very good build quality, and a good price as well. And they are all made in Germany.
There are better fixtures out there, but for the money these are very nice.

Def. good quality fixtures. I have the AM ocean light pendents 250 and am very happy with them. I'll be selling them soon, too if your looking.

How about something like a Hamilton Reefstar Mini Pendant, would that have a bigger/better reflector?

There was a guy on RC displaying a burnt out capaciter in his aquamedic, and said it was the second fixture that has done it. Scary - looks like it easily could have caused a fire in the right conditions.

I've been running 2 250 watt aquamedic oceanlight HQi's for a few years. I've seen no problems with either of them.
