Adding Rock to Established Tank

Hi RS,

I have had a healthy tank running for about 5 months now. I want to add more rock so I can have more spots for corals and make my DT a little more eye catching.

My question is: If I add dead, dry rock will it cause another cycle?

It shouldnt cause the tank to cycle again... Just keep up with water tests and to be safe...

Yea you shouldn't have a problem just keep on checking the parameters

To start a cycle you need a source of ammonia. In order to have ammonia, something has to die/decay. So if the rock has nothing live on it that will die off, and assuming you don't kill anything in the process of adding the rock ;-) - you won't get a cycle.

+1. You should be able to add dry rock to your hearts content and not have to worry about a cycle.

Dry rock is the goods...sometimes it even helps boost calcium levels...or I could be making that up ...either way its fun to watch it color up!
