A Few Noob Forum Questions

The only other forum I have regularly participated in was an Apple Final Cut forum for video editors and, of course, it had it's similarities and differences compared to this site.

Why do some profile names and names that appear in the "who's online" list appear in red? Are they moderators, forum founders or high posting members?

Who supplies those fish or coral names that appear in post profiles... tubeworm, fire coral etc. and what do they mean?

Are the Karma Comments just a way to thank another poster or to they increase reputation of a poster? The search I did on this gave varying opinions on that.

Thanks

Welcome to RS!
Yes the red names are moderators or administrators.
The title at the top describes how many posts you have made. You start as a very simple life form and then advance as you post more. If you become a Premium member then you can change your title as you like.
The reason you are getting conflicting info on the karma comments is that it changed a couple of years ago. It used to be kind of a reputation thing but the feature was being badly abused so now it is a way to show appreciation or disagreement with a post or person.
If you have any other questions, please let us know.

1. Mods names are in red only

2. It changes as your post count goes up.

3. Karma is another way of thanking someone who helped you and it increases their reputation as a good poster...
