    Hi-
I have a new reef tank that is on day seven of cycle. It was started with live sand and live rock shipped in. The ammonia level is 8ppm, ph is 8.0 nitrites and nitrates are 0. The water is cloudy and diatoms are spreading all over my live rock. What is happening and how do I fix?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Die off of dead critters on the rock and in the sand.

This is a normal tank cycle. Don't panic. Leave it alone, and give it time. It will be fine.

Monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels, when they drop to 0, the tank will be through it's initial cycle, At that point test nitrate, and if needed do partial water changes to bring that down.
