There are some mesh bags available. But I believe they would still trap pods. I use a filter sock on and off. Whenever I remove it or change it out I look for pods and snails and return them to either the sumo or display.

Sounds like the toxins from the nem got into your water. I would suggest starting some water changes over the next few days. Nothing crazy maybe 25-30% do like 5 or so. You may consider activated carbon as well if you are not using it. What are your current water parameters? Did the other nems...
Nitrates at 100ppm is very high. I would do a 20% water change each day until it returns to normal limits. Are you missing a large specimen in your tank? When was your last water change?

should I run one Kelvin level throughout day or mix it up? I start day at 20k then raise to 12k then 10k around mid day and then back down. I keep UV at 100% though each. I am also considering incorporating a 6500k period for an hour or so around mid day. Any thoughts or opinions on what I have...
