That is cool. I have a very nice huge Oscar tank like that once back in the 80's when I was a teen. I even kept a few rep's in the tree work above.

I have been to about every petco within 100 miles of my hometown and in my experience none of them have been good. Here is why

1. Bad service
2. Unknowledgeable staff
3. Tanks are disgusting with cyano, algae, and/or dead livestock.

This one store is horrible. Thats my experiences with them. Others in different parts of the US might have better luck than me.

:look:

we have one GREAT PEtco! both of the fish specialists are members of our lopcal reef club, and have their own reefs. they are very knowledgeable, and i was impressed when i figured this out.

I had help today getting my stand reinforced. (It was a fold-up stand made by iIsand aquarium, can you believe that!.

The rock frame work was started but it isnt much, its just one small tower to open up the main portion. I will build around that and see what happens I suppose...haha

-New Tank Setup! ( $500 bucks)
-Refractometer ( $40 )
-Test kit ( $20 )
-PVC Pipe ($45 )
-Other random Lowes and HD stuff ($50 )
-Salt and Water ( $60)

This tank better be awesome...or else!

Noticed a spot on the purple tang yesterday, figured it was just a grain of sand from the sand sifting goby, but i was proven wrong today with the appearance of multiple more spots. PM'd Lee to see if he suggested Hypo or Copper based on which one was more effective and safer for the fish at the same time, and am awaiting the reply. The QT tanks will go back up tomorrow, and the fish will be in them by the evening hopefully. The one question I had for everyone is how do you QT a fish that lives off of nothing but pods, and how do you QT a fish that eats from a sand bed? I guess the scooter blenny isnt a big deal, I was looking into trading him in for a mandarin anyways so he may just go to someone else or a fish store, if anyone wants him pm me and we will talk about it, but the question for the diamond goby still stands. So, what needs to go into the QT tanks for hypo are as follows...

-Purple Tang
-2 Ocellaris Clowns
-Lawnmower Blenny
-Diamond goby
-6 line wrasse

I have a 20 gallon tall and a 10 gallon tank, for those fish, how do I go about matching them up for the process. I could also set a divider in the 20 gallon to separate some of the fish cause I dont think the purple will enjoy sharing a tank with anyone. I was thinking of making the 20 two separate sections and housing the purple tang in 1 section and the 2 clowns in the other, and then the 6 line, the lawnmower, and the diamond in the 10 gallon.

The other thing I have considered was combining these two tanks into one system, which would not be too hard considering the 20 is already drilled. I would just have to set a SMALL pump in the 10 that would bring water back to the 20, and thats that really. Throw me Ideas, I will have a better representation of this idea shortly.

when did you get a sixline? lol, i didnt know you had one. ive been looking into getting one ever since last night. our local club had a talk on parasites, and how sixlines eat nudis, and flat worms.

as far as better treatment for the fish, hypo is less stress. for you i think copper is less stress, pH is a huge battle with hypo, but not as bad with copper.

I remember having a strong reason against cooper, IDK how it is with tangs though. good luck and sorry. the ick will seem like it goes away, it doesn't.

I am tired of the ick already, so im making it go away. I will have my refractometer at some point over the next few days, and then they will go in and the treatment will start. For the one system from 2 tank's setup, I look at it like this...One tank will have one salinity level to keep up with instead of 2, 1 pH to keep up with instead of 2, the one water volume will make it much easier to maintain parameters, etc. I just dont know how to room the fish...ugh

check out frankies thread "going hypo" he has them in a 55, and is battling pH. also, theres no biological bacteria... ahaa!!! do you still have that sponge under your return in the 55? put that in a tank with some movement over it. that will get you some biological filtering!

Here is what the new plan is. All the corals, the snails, crabs, shrimp, and stars are going in a 10 gallon tank with the 130 watt PC light. The 55 is going to be removed of all rock and most sand and then once its just fish that tank will go through the hypo, that way no combining tanks or setting up new stuff or any of that. Make more sense to everyone, seems like a better idea. Then none of the fish need to be messed with, and with the hypo going im shutting the sump off so that water will be used for the coral tank so there will be no acclimation period.
