What would you do when leaving home for more than a few days?

I was wondering what most people do when they leave and for ..um lets say a week! Here is my situation, I have no water top off system, might get help for a friend that knows nothing about aquariums. I've see these post before but not here so I wanted something I could reference later. Ideas on your problems and solving them or suggestions welcome.
