Assuming this is a FW tank and you are not keeping fish that will totally destroy live plants, give live plants a try. It's not too hard to get a real jungle growing in there. You only need a few plants, since with some effort the plants will reproduce. Plus, live plants loos so real. (grin)
Also, in case your worried (grin), a high end planted tank can cost almost as much as a SW reef system. However this is usually nit the case.
My own planted tank is a 90 gal and when things are just right, it's got all this really nice lush green growth. It's really uplifting to see it in winter when there is snow and such outside.
