Clam rocking

I've had my lovely clam now for a couple of weeks. She has attached to a rock and I've moved her up from the sand. She seems happy and is opening well and reacts quickly to light changes and shadows.

My question is this. I was watching the tank and saw the clam rock forward and back (so rotate along the axis perpendicular to the opening between the shells) rather than side to side as she might if she closed her shell and fell over. Was she moving her byssus gland or attaching a new threads?
