Advice on Alk level

My tank is at 8dkh currently and I am trying to keep it as stable as possible. It has been up to 11dkh. Since 8 is closer to NSW, I would think it would be better, but my fresh saltwater is measuring 10.5 dkh. Would it be better to shoot for that number so there is no ups and downs or will 20% water changes not really cause too much variations?

Instead of chasing some number, I test the levels in the tank after each water change and then set my dosing level so that those numbers are reached and are consistent. Ideally, each time you do a water change these will be the same and thus the tank stays consistent. After several weeks and tests, you can confirm if this is the case or not.
