10 gal fishtank lighting, inexpensive but efficient.

I wanted to set up a 10 gal freshwater single species tank for breeding. The plastic light that came with the tank years ago has a rusted out socket, and is warped from long use with those hot bulbs. So I had an idea. With x-mas on the way, and stores already putting things out for it, I found a cheap set of 50 led white lights. I designed a top that sits 1" above the plexi cover I cut to fit the tank, with a cutout that just clears the filter. This lighting unit cost me $12, is much cooler, and has replaceable bulbs. (The string came with 2 extras).

Great idea for a small tank. The possible downside is that all white leds might give you enough light, but look off, or have an incomplete spectrum. Although you could get some other colors of leds to balance this.

The price at $12 is nothing short of fantastic.
