So, a couple things.
The plate coral has moved, about 1" toward the glass.
Don't know why, its looking the best it ever has. Any ideas?
And the star is again climbing on the clam. No idea why.

From everything I've read about plate corals, they just like to move. I'm not sure they need to have much of a reason. That's obviously just from reading, though.

I have heard people say it's because they might be looking for better light or flow, but I'm not sure there has to be a reason at all. From what I'm reading, they sometimes just like to move. Kind of cool, really.

My fungia doesn't move much that I've noticed. So, no practical experience.

Well, near disaster.
Tested, ca off the charts.
What? Messed up my timer, forgot to put a end time on the 7:00 dose.
Currently doing a WC to bring it down.
KH was 9.1, so my amounts are close, dialing it back 5ml/day.

Sorry to hear the mishap with the doser. Keep us posted on how everything is doing.

Definitely keep us posted.

Thanks for the concern, I appreciate it.
Has turned into pretty much a non-event.
Ca currently around 590, coming down 10-20/day.
I'm currently dosing kh only , have gotten it to my new target of 8.4.
From everything i've read, stable kh is the key.
Randy says best plan of action is to just let it come down on its own and keep the kh stable.
The clam is helping me in this regard.
Only thing that has taken a turn for the worse is 1 of the feather dusters.
The other one is fine, so i'm not totally convinced its attributed to the high ca.
On the other hand, all of my zoa's are looking the best they ever have.
I have 3 types, green, orange and purple.
They look fantastic, especially the greens. Usually they look really iffy.
So that's about it, everything should be back to normal in a probably about a week.

So, I calibrated my cheapo digital thermometer.
I found that it is pretty much exactly 1 degree high.
So, all this time I thought my tank was ranging from 79.3-81.5, its actually been 78.3-80.5.
Now i'm thinking if that's too cool?
Opinions anyone?

You've got me quite worried Mark. I am aiming for a KH of 12.6, as suggested to me by Kev from Red Sea. This is based on the parameters for rapid growth using Red Sea coral pro salt:
Salinity:1.026
Calcium: 465
Magnesium: 1390
KH: 12.6
No3: 1-2ppm
Po4: 0.08

Am I making a mistake in aiming for these figures? He said this is based on the fact I intend to have SPS and that I don't need to aim for these numbers just yet as my stock levels are low (zero lps right now actually).

On another note, I have to say, your tank looks brilliant, I love it. Glad you have the minor mishap under control.

Regards Neil.

I don't think you are making a mistake.
Red Sea has multiple level suggestions in their reef program.
I'm aiming more for the mature/coloration numbers.
The foundation reef program is explained on this page.

Thanks. I'm on the "make every reef mistake possible" path, but i'm getting there.

Ha, that wasn't a hint, it's a signature when I use tapatalk. I appreciate you reading my thread :)

Think I'll delete that sig, it's annoying.

Awesome picture.

575 isn't too bad at all. Red Sea recommends 565 for SPS growth, so at least is back in some kind of reasonable range.

No ill effects to date?
