Snail ID

Trying to ID this snail...they're prime suspects in the murder of a Tridacna. These were caught by a friend in a trip to Cancun Mexico. Any info on the would be appreciated. TIA

Murex?

The murex snail that ended up in my tank was from snails collected in florida.

I think they are Oyster drills (Urosalpinx sp.)

I think the tattooed snout and hatch points to a type of whelk. These are predatory

While exact identification is difficult from the picture, it is either a whelk or some form of predatory, shell drilling mollusk. First it's clams, then its LPS's and so on, and so on ....... Find them and euthanize them by putting them in a paper towel inside a zip lock bag and freeze them. Do not flush them down the toilet. Who knows what these things could do if they survived and made it into the salt line of any major river.

It's actually from the coast of the Madeira Islands not Cancun, it's a Thais haemastoma. It's not in my tank I was trying to get an ID for a friend.
