What is this?

I had pieces like that on one of my fans. Like around the edge. Is your lighting screwed into a hood? Could be a spacer or something that has worked itself loose.

I do have a new Tunze powerhead. As far as the hood, it is a Red Sea Max 250, I think there is a gasket around the splash guard, but it is not shaped like this. The pieces don't look like they have broken off or torn away from anything. The ends are clean and straight.

Is that "spot" in the center some type of rust/corrosion?

Actually, it is coralline algae....

Is that "spot" in the center some type of rust/corrosion?

Actually, it is coralline algae....

I thought it looked like coralline. That would maybe mean that it came from a place that it getting some direct light & has been there a long time...???
