Ok, I am wanting the benefits of a turf scrubber, system voume, and refugium. I want a a sump on my little 10 gallon. I am going to pick up another 10 gallon and drill 2 overflows and a return in it. I am totally unsure of how this works, but what I have researched so far, I think I need about a 3 to 5 time turn over in the the system. So that would be about 50 gallons. I think that 2, 1" over flow holes would be more than adequate, but is there a way to calculate this, other than trail and error? Then the pump size....with a 2.5 to 3 ft. head, how do you calculate how big a pump you need? Then to fine tune the pump...how is that accomplished? The only thing I can think of, is to restrict the pump with a ball valve in the return line. But this seems hard on the pump to me. Anyway, would sure like someone to fill me in on how this works.
