Rust in mixing can

So I accidentally left my tubing brush in the can I use to mix water. It also had some old tank water in it. There is a part of the tubing brush that's metal... And now there is some rust at the bottom of the can.

I should ditch the can, right? Or am I nuts to think it may leech to the plastic of the can. Is a 20gal brute.

Wish I could find the source but I remember reading rust, i.e. iron oxide is reef safe in small quantities, possibly even beneficial as a phosphate remover. I would scrub it down and keep on using myself.

Yeah I would just clean it out. "Rust happens" and I have seen no ill effects on my tank at all.

clean it out with Vinegar. Has no lasting residue and eats trust like candy. Acetic acid(Vinegar is 4-6%) is a key part of CLR. Rust in and of itself wont harm the aqarium wate in small amounts. GFO, is a form of Iron Rust.
