Prune dead skeleton?

I have a green acropora piece that had a tough time acclimating to my tank and lost tissue on the ends of some of its tips. The rest of the coral looks great now but the tips are growing algae on it. My question is can the dead tips be clipped off to encourage new growth? Or should I simply leave it alone and let nature run its course? There is also a growing population of bubble algae on its base that cant be reached unless I move it off of where it is so it will likely be moved soon just so I can clean up the bubble algae. Thanks.

Thanks for the fast response BLAKEJOHN. I am doing some maintenance tomorrow so I think I will go ahead and clip the ends off.
