One of my favorite things on these forums is tank builds.
We all know that you shouldn't buy livestock before you
have the appropriate environment established.

Well, because it was a Christmas gift I waited until after
the animal to start on the home.

This was the gift!

My 5 yr old took the photo with his digital camera from Santa (awesome
fisher price item).

So, now its time to build appropriate fence, barn, etc. so I thought you might\
like to see the build thread.
I'm sure there are horse forums, but I prefer y'all's company.:thumber:

Isn't Santa cool... From the pic... kinda looks like an appaloosa. What kind is it. I had a paint mare and a black pony. Horses are wonderful animals. High maintenance, a lot like reefs...

Ahh... That is a palamino... Thanks wit. I see it now! Very nice. Much lighter that most I've seen.

She's an eighteen year old palamino quarter horse (yes I got one that old on purpose)
They live to be in their 30's and she is what they call "bombproof"
(won't buck, kick, etc.)

She was a gift from me to my wife. After eighteen years of saying not
just no but h*ll no when she said she wanted a horse, it was the ultimate
suprise!

Here's the proud new owner

Re: My New Build Big Enough for a Horse!

I had a friend deliver Kira (that's the horse) to my Parents'
house Christmas morning. (I've had Christmas in the same house
every year [40] of my life). I wrapped a box with carrots in it.
As she opened it I said I had to get something out of the car and
excused myself outside. As she put two and two together she ran
outside to find me leading Kira up the drive.

OK, on with the build.

First of all you'll note that it's been awhile since Christmas. As I indicated
above I couldn't start on any fence/shelter prior to Christmas for fear of
ruining the suprise.

So what does it do as soon as it's time to start building??

Why...

Re: My New Build Big Enough for a Horse!

So it has just now dried up enough to work so today we started.

First the new fence.

This is our driveway approach

Re: My New Build Big Enough for a Horse!

One of the main reasons I bought this place is the overgrown perimeter.
Large oaks, junipers, etc. covered with mustang grape vines create a
visiual screen that keeps our five acres totally private. If they build
a junk yard next door I won't see it.

But, in order to run the new pipe rail fence around approximately 2 acres
for the horse we've decided to clear about 150 feet of road frontage.:chomp:

The area to be cleared is to the right (east) of the drive.

The drive is just left of the left juniper.

Re: My New Build Big Enough for a Horse!

I had mixed emotions, but to do this fence right it is necessary. We were
able to save a couple of the bigger trees.

A couple of years ago I was awakened by a bull dozer that had already
taken out about half of the property line between my neighbor and me.
I was not happy, but it grew back pretty quickly and today you'd never
know it happened.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (always wanted to say that)
we are also building a barn/stable (not really sure which is proper
term).

The spot I've chosen for the barn is a little low so we are importing
about sixty to eighty cubic yards of select fill.
