I have seen some threads on the UV. I'm taking a poll of;

UV has been covered so many times here, there is really no reason to go into it again so soon. Reading the threads on it should give you all the information, the pros and cons, for anything you might consider doing with UV.

To give it a short summary, you use UV where it's going to solve some very specific problem. Don't expect UV to solve parasite diesease problems. Make sure it's correctly installed. Contact time is everything.

I'm a newbie to these threads, but not to SW tanks.

I have never had soooo damn much trouble with algae and it's the soft water.
I understand a UV will help and I won't turn down help any time.

Save your money then. UV will work wonders for algae that is actually in the water column. That's the microscopic stuff that turns the water green. For the usual problem algaes in a reef system, such as green hair algae or bubble algae, it's not going to do much at all.
