How can you tell which circulation pumps use less juice when gated down?

Need a smaller circ pump to replace and old Quiet One IIRC, but want a little more power than I have now so will want to gate it down.

by "juice" are you saying electrical power? if so i don't think it's gonna matter. by gated down are you putting a gate valve on the pump? a little more common lingo might help. thanks,

yes, some pumps will reduce wattage draw when they are gated down with a valve. I'm wondering if any external pumps that aren't monsters feature this
