Hi All
get much needed help
i hope you are all well and have thriving tanks!!!

I got mine 10 days ago put the water in sand and live rock and running cycle using Reef mature pro kit from Red sea. Ive had a few spikes in Ammonia and nitrates and also pH and temperature spikes. There looks like nice algae growth on the rocks and from what i can see everything is running smoothly so far apart from these pesky bubbles coming out of the left pump. I have cleaned the polisher which is in the chamber next to it but the water flow is very slow and causes the water in the chamber on the left do drop rapidly so i have removed the polisher and inserted a Juwel fine sponge into the polisher rack. This has improved water flow but the bubbles are still coming out!!! I have checked the skimmer and it seems to be working ok ( i think). How can i upload pics from an iphone 5 so i can show you and hopefully get much needed help?

Thank you in advance

the key to keeping the stock skimmer working correctly is
#1 - Water level in the tank, try and keep it at the same line on the left side of the tank. ( im on the 2nd line down)
#2 - The back water gate, i have mine just below the first notch
#3 - amount of air you let into the skimmer
#4 - adjust the Cup height

I found with mine i have the lowered the amount of air in my skimmer and lowered the cup almost to the bottom. I have 0 micro bubbles now and i get a nice thing skim.

Give the above a try and it will take about a month but you can do it im sure!

Welcome to RS :)

Sure your microbubbles are not small suspended particles - we see post like that quite a bit in the club ... just checking to help sort !

Beautiful tank & scape - great start mate ! White looks brilliant !

cheers! You think its cycling ok? My salinity is dropping off quite badly and im going to sound like a right pillock here but how shall i get it back up, shall add salt to the RO water and then put straight into the tank or the back left chamber?

So i have just adjusted the skimmer cup (took it up) and it seems to have done the trick with the skimming however im still getting this:

This is what the chamber next to the skimmer looks like, can anyone notice the line of whatever it is going straight across?

the bubbles on the fine filter, look like normal ones that are part of the nitrogen cycle - but hard to tell with pics...

on cycling ... add a raw deli shrimp (a prawn I think for our uk mates) to kick start the cycle

Ammonia will raise then drop, followed by the Nitrites raising and then dropping, then the Nitrate will soar - once the ammonia & nitrites are gone, then do water changes to reduce nitrates.

Ammonia > Nitrite > Nitrate

tank cycled - add cuc, 1st coral, 1st fish or pair

here is a general timeline - a lot depend on the state of your LR

How fine is your sand? As that's what the particles will most likely be. If you get a fine filter pad and have that in the tank then that'll take them out of the water in no time but as it's such a new tank the sand won't have settled completely yet so just give it some time and you will have beautiful and clear water soon :) The filter pad will definitely speed it up though :)
