New Corals + Fighting back!
I've moved my replacement corals around so many times this week that they've barely had a chance to open their polyps since I got them 6 days ago. And I moved them again today.
Before the last move today I did a job on removing a lot of the paly colony that wiped out my green M. digitata. I should have done this a few weeks ago, but wasn't sure how to trim them. I ened up using my old DIY xenia remover.
This was 2 months ago:
This was about a week ago. The green branching digitata on the left was wiped out by overgrowth of the paly colony far left, and also by an encroaching mat of GSP, and was dead and white at this point. On the right side you'll see that the same fate befell my German Blue branching digi. The Orange Monti Cap has grown completely around the base of the digi, and it too was dead, and mostly white.
This afternoon I pulled off most of the paly colony and remounted the 2 new corals in that area. I'll have to keep after the palys and GSP and trim them again as needed to avoid losing the new corals - a stylophora on the top that should have bright yellow polyps (if they ever get a chance to settle in), and a combination rock with a pink and green pocillopora colony below the stylophora:
I broke off the dead branches of the blue digi - the Orange cap has formed a nice little cup after growing through the digi:
I should have fragged some branches off of the two digis before they perished, but I waited too long.
For the record here's my big green acro - this has really been growing great. I'd hate to lose this one for any reason:
My Xenia, and now Paly remover tool - works great!
