I have had a bubble coral in my tank for a few months now and it was doing great and opening all the way with my maroon clown loving it. Now, it looks like two spots have turned black and it doesn't ever open like it used to. I do water changes every other week of about 45% of the tank. My other corals seem fine

Should I place closer to the light and not on the sand?
Does the base need to be in the live sand or can I place it on Live rock?

That's how mine is too
When I got it it was pretty small then a few weeks later it literally doubled in size.
Now it's not as big either like yours. I glueded it to a live rock when I bought it.

i have a green bubble coral and i keep him on the sand and he does fine. i would leave him there or if you want move him a little higher they usually like lower lighting. and were it's turning black is it like slimy looking goo.

No not sticky, it just looks like a piece has died and now its not growing nearly as big as in the picture. I have placed it higher in the tank, closer to the light to see if that will help. I will post in a couple days to see if it helped or not
Thanks
