Saltwater mixing station in bedroom closet

So iv been having some major issues with red slime algae, dead corals(hard corals), and out of wack perimeters all from using tap water for water changes and top-off. I know tap water is a big no no in the reefing hobby but my 120 gallon innovative marine tank is located on my second floor bedroom making it almost impossible to do major water changes. So i figured its time to protect my investments. After doing some major brain storming i realize the only place i can have a fair size mixing station would be in my closet.

Here are a few pics of what im doing so far.

Removing old 80GPD unit for AquaFX Great White 300GPD RO-DI unit. Unit will be mounting on the wall in the closet as it is too big to fit under bathroom sink.

Two 55 gallon Barrels . One for RO/DI storage, and the other for mixing saltwater.

4X4 Pine will be used for the Legs on the 55 gallon Barrels.

Water Leak Detection Unit will be used on the lower pan just in case my plumbing sucks.

Test fit to see how much space lost with the barrels in place. I was lucky enough to install a power outlet from the outlet by the bathroom sink.

Pretty happy how the stand turned out. working on plumbing and creating a switch box for the pump now. Should have progress pics soon.

Looks awesome! My wife would kill me for having a water station in a closet, but it would be way cooler and more convenient if I could!

A very nice project. You may already be planning this, but I suggest that you give the wood several coats of spar varnish or polyurethane before you use it. This will protect the wood and keep it looking good for years.

I did not think of that....very good idea. Will look into the different types available. Thanks!!

HEHE....its funny because my wife suggested that i use her closet for the water barrels because its bigger. I WAS LIKE :outtahere:lol but i said no thank you. The day we get into an argument and you walk into your closet, its then you realize the water barrels probably wasn't a good idea. :wah:

Dodged a bullet on her closet! It's always nice when a spouse is willing to accommodate the hobby's various annoyances.

I"m assuming the IM is a SR 120? How do you like the system so far? I live on the third floor and downsized from a 90 to a 65 out of fear of the weight. You sound pretty brave, or at least assured of your joists! :D

its a 120g....i opened a discussion about the joists before i purchased the IM 120...Turns out it would be perpendicular to the tank and the joists are engineered I beams so i had the all clear. Tank has been up and running for a while now with no issues or any signs or issues at least.
