Damned if I do

Last month I was fighting brown hair algae. Now I have to grow algae again.

My Conch snail has no algae to eat, my dwarf Coral Beauty has no algae to eat,
my lawn mower has no algae to eat, and my Scopas Tang has no algae to eat.
I'm such a bad dad, I'm starving my kids.

I really don't want to pollute my tank with seaweed and such. So, for now I'm doing
flake seaweed.

You can also go to a grocery store that sells stuff to make sushi, and get yourself some nori sheets. This is a seaweed product, and you can use a lettuce clip to hold part of a sheet in place so the fish can eat it. It's easy to remove if they don't get it all.

Another food item you can use is romaine lettuce. Many algae eatting fish love that also.

If you get nori sheets, make sure to pick up ones w/o any additional flavors like teriyaki or spices.

Oxy: Are they heart healthy??

Dave: The Romaine is liked by all fish, I used to give it to my African Cichlids.

Thanks to you both :)

Yes I use the algae rings but they are pricey.
Hey dave Like port gunner i used to feed romaine to my fresh water fish. Is there much nutrition in the romaine? Yes they may like it but is there enough food value in it? If there is I am going to try it as I have 8 tangs in 3 tanks and the algae rings are pricey and my grocery stores used to carry nori/ algae but for some reason stopped. I do have algae waffers but I have not tried them yet and have been using the rings and nori

Compared to some other foods romaine doesn't have the food value of some of the other foods. However consider what tangs and angles eat. They bulk up on a lot of vegetable matter. That's what makes them big dirty messy fish.

I wouldn't recommend feeding romaine all the time, but it's a good food when used along with the others, and it gives the fish something to nibble on all day.

pgr/tailgunner My apologies. I understand how you feel and I commend you for your service then and now. I was typing to fast and did not recheck the name.
Dave thanks. I will pick some up. Yes they are messy fish. I hate it when my 7+" blue hippo grabs a chunk of nori thats to big for him to eat and instead of eating that he goes for another. The romaine might keep the mess to a minimum.
