Leathers sometimes shed their outer "coating,"(for lack of a better word) and it slimes off. They need some mediumish flow to blow it off.

You got it Grant. This is how they rid themselves of debris and algae that tried to grow on them. Good flow is essential for them.

I think that running carbon is a good idea if you are keeping softies because many of them use chemical warfare. Might also help with the droopy leather.

I agree whole heartedly especially if it's a Soft coral dominated tank.

How do I run carbon with out the whole sump and plumbing deal???

Put it in a bag that is rated for carbon and put it in your HOB.

Buy a phosban reactor and run carbon in it. They are really inexpensive. I run Matrix (a form of carbon) in one of mine.

What are you using for a skimmer?

This is a phosban reactor. $37.00 at www.marinedepot.com. You also need a maxijet 900 or so to push water through it.
