Oh wow......I would have to think that the shortage of water this year (it never rains around here anymore) has something to do with it. I bet it is sewer run off cause sewer and NJ go together (I was born there so I can say that!)

Actually, rain is one of the conditions that break up algal blooms; and cold weather. So the lack of rain could also be a contributing cause.

Somehow... In some way... I feel that PaulB is responsible. Were there any Super Models nearby?

Actually, NJ and the surrounding states have made some progress in cleaning up the water, but some areas were so far down about all they could go is up. Another factor is that there are still large areas of NJ that are farmland, so yes, you'll get some run off from that.
