55 gallons of veggies and Allard Clowns

I guess it's time for me to unveil the new 55. This was formerly my anemone/clown tank. Everything but the Allards were moved to the new 65 that I won in a raffle. This tank was supposed to come down so that I could stay married. After all, who really needs 3 tanks! Well, a few weeks later...I'm still married.

I bought the rock used with the intention of using it in the building of the 65. I soaked it in RO water, then cycled it in a tub of saltwater. It was pretty stinky and gross. I ended up not using it in the 65 because it was so gross. But, after setting it in the 55 it didn't seem so bad. I put a substantial CUC in the tank and they had it cleaned up nicely in a few days.

So far I have pom pom xenia, red sea xenia, some stuff closely related to xenia but different (I need to track down the name of it, its in the center photo) frogspawn, GSP, a colt coral, a GBTA, a few fuzzy mushrooms, and a red mushroom. I started with chaeto in the tank, but found some red grape caulerpa locally. The rest of the veggies are from Reef Cleaners. I have since removed the chaeto. I think this is about it, all it needs now is to grow up.

The tank was never taken down, the Allards stayed in the tank for a while by themselves without any rock or corals. They had been sold to a semi-local reefer that breeds maroon clowns. They couldn't pick them up until after the first of the year, so the clowns told me what a bad mommy I was for several days. Oh, and these are one of my husband's favorite fish too. He didn't realize (though I told him many times) that the clowns would have to go if I only had 2 tanks, because they weren't compatible with other fish).

Once I (I = me, myself, and me ~ that is with my husband's acceptance of who I am ~ the fish lady) decided the tank was staying, I added the rock just before Christmas after it finished cycling.

Filtration is a Aquaclear, BakPak Skimmer, and internal tunze nanostream. Lights are a new Nova Extreme SLR T5 HO (216w).

I think it is beautiful. Now I just hope I can keep these plants alive. A few of them are difficult to keep (such as the fuzzy/hairy/gorgeous one in the middle).

I haven't had it long enough to tell. The fans are loud, but you can run them separately so I just turned them off. The lights that come with it don't give me the color I want so I'm going to replace one of the bulbs. Other than that, I was looking for something inexpensive, and this was on sale!

Thanks everyone!

I think all the hubby decided is that he wouldn't throw me out on the street if I didn't get rid of HIS clowns :laughroll

I hope they live too!
