120 gallon 4ft over 150 gallon tank easier to light

DIY is pretty simple., but if you have extra $$ i would go with manufactured just because you usually get a lot more details built in. Especially if you have plans for dosing, or probes etc... Bigger is better either way, as long as it fits your space.

Inflation Fears - what do you stock up on?

To me, cost of inflation is much more tolerable than not being able to get a critical component right away. Ive bought an extra return pump, RODI filters and carbon when the supply chain delays started last year. Im down to about 2 water changes per year, and reusable foam filters in the sump so...

120 gallon 4ft over 150 gallon tank easier to light

Maybe just personal preference but i would push the majority of the flow into the protein skimmer section and place the return after that. You could minimize the flow through the refugium and then divert into the return.

I use salifert mg kit. Dont think it has any issues. I did an intentional Mg overdose a while back and double checked the test kit to the posted values of RC salt and seemed to line up so i didnt doubt my test results.

Annual-ish update . Still hate algae, everything else is still moving along just fine. Added a male clown, and a YWG that likes to jump into the overflow. Havent done a WC in about a year, or so, but last test results are normal except declining salt levels due to leaving the ATO fill on too...

    Blue's 180 Mixed Reef

Good to be back around, need to play a little catch up for a week or two. A thread on another hobby forum reminded me to check back in here. The past couple years have put more focus on sustainability for the family, (ie. Guns an Gear) so i havent put a lot of effort into my tank, but its still...

    Blue's 180 Mixed Reef

Its such a luxury to design around a tank vs. Placing a tank into existing work. Looking forward to seeing it come together!

    PSU’s Peninsula

I could see dosing rotifers if they were readily available, natural fauna is tough to argue against.

Thx for the bump Bryan! 7 years into this current setup, and i keep going in and out of having algae issues. Luckily im ok with some green aesthetically, but draw the line when it starts molesting corals. Most recently i tore down my waterfall ATS, and converted it to an upflow hang on type...
