    Sun coral erosion

This is what I did with mine, when I had a tank. :tears: Cut the top off of a 2 or 3 liter soda bottle, thoughly washed of course, and set it upside down over the coral. Using your turkey baster blast some cyclopeze, live brine shrimp, or whatever you want into the top and then screw on the...

    first sump

Dont use a one-way valve. They are unreliable. Calcium builds up and causes them to stick open. Drill some 1/8" holes 1" below the surface of the water to break the siphon and prevent overflow. I prefer several holes in case one gets blocked.

Need Help on making Lighting Choice

Personally I would probably go for the T-5's. I know that 54w is less than 65w, but I have always felt that T-5s are brighter than CFs. Plus the number of lunar lights isn't that important, 2 is better than 4 because the shadows and "waves" will be stronger and give better contrast.

    10k, 14k,1 15k, 20k? Which do you like?

Personally I prefer 10k with actinic supplementation. I have seen tanks with 20k bulbs, too much blue IMO, it made my eyes hurt. It's like at the bowling alley when they turn on the black lights for cosmic bowling, there is an adjustment which can be hard to make. As far as mogul vs HQI, I...

    Aqua Gloves = $15 a pair :( Alternatives?

As suggested above I used *unpowered* latex gloves to pull excess macro form my bristle-worm infected sump/refuge. Plus they perform double duty for cooking, cleaning, car repair, painting duties, or whenever you need or want to get super messy. Edit: unpowdered, not unpowered ... batteries...

    Stand or fall!

You can build it as tall as you want if you then anchor it into a stud. In Southern California that is a must due to the earthquakes.

OT Gas Prices in your area?

I guess we are pretty lucky here in Colorado. 2.79/gal As far as releasing the strategic oil reserves, which Bush has said he will do, it doesn't really help that much. That is crude oil that still needs to be refined into gasoline, and there is no more refining capacity. That is where the...

yea .. small fish ;) I go up there for work occasionally Last time I was up there my buddy pulled out a 16" lake trout. Now here in the states that is a big fish .. up there though it is average. I couldn't believe it but he threw it out because it was too small?!? Just a different way of...

    clown goby question

I had 2 of each color (green, yellow, and red) in my 60 gallon. They were a great fish that adds alot of personality and color to a tank. My favorite fish by far!!

Skimmer Really Needed? Or LR LS are Enough?

My tank was doing really good, then I started having algae problems, my corals were losing color, and the growth had slowed ... I couldnt figure out what was wrong, after almost a month I realized that I hadn't had to empty the skimate in quite a while. Turns out my skimmer wasn't running...
