I like to keep things simple, a return pump, a heater and an efficient skimmer. Maybe an ATO as well. Keep all the compartments bare and just focus on the DT.
Running a filter sock, a HOB filter or a canister filter for a few hours during a water change is a good idea too though.

I'm assuming it's soft? Does it have a stalk or trunk? If so I want to say Nepthea, but I'm not sure if that's correct or not. An encrusting Gorgonian crossed my mind too though.
I rid my tank of these through manual removal. It was definitely a little tedious, but I figured if I'm going to feed the fish once or twice a day I might as well siphon some of these little buggers out at the same time.

Did these pumps come with the tank or did you add them later on? If it's former than you can probably order these from the manufacturer online. If it's the latter then the options are endless.
How big is your tank? I'm not sure what your budget is like, but I've had great success with the Koralia Evolution powerheads in my tank. They can be a bit bulky, but they work very well and they're easy to clean too...
