Question Marine Depot

Has anyone had any good/bad experiences ordering livestock from www.marinedepot.com?

Re: Marine Depot

never ordered livestock from them, their prices aren't good enough on livestock, especially once you add in shipping and handling. After the math is done it seems to me to be alot cheaper to just buy from my lfs. not to mention buying locally i get to see what i want and take it home right then. I will add though that i have ordered supplies from marine depot lots of times and i am very happy with their service in that department, so if you don't have a good lfs it might be worth the risk to try ordering your animals from them.

Re: Marine Depot

Some of the members of the local reef club did a group buy thru MDLive a couple of years ago. What a nightmare it was. Cluster**** actually comes to mind. Wrong fish shipped, boxes went to the wrong addresses, lots back-ordered (with NEW shipping charges demanded) etc. Not sure I'd ever do another one through them. I agree that there isn't usually a big savings buying this way after shipping is factored in, but buying on-line is a good way to get things that you rarely see in your LFS.

Re: Marine Depot

I will often "windowshop" at MarineDepot then search somewhere else for a better deal. I almost always find a better deal.

Re: Marine Depot

I ordered a Fire fish and a bicolor Blenny from them about a year ago. The fish arrived in very good condition and have done well in my tank. A one time experience should be taken for what it's worth but I didn't have any problems to speak of. HTH

PS They were on sale at the time so it was a decent deal.

Re: Marine Depot

Thanks everyone for chiming in. They were the only distributor that had everything in stock that I was looking for. I'll let you know how my order goes.

Hey Woody:

I have ordered from them a few times with no problems. I have not ordered livestock though.

Cheers!

Re: Marine Depot

I've ordered from them too. Always a good experience, although I never ordered any livestock from them.

Their dry goods ordering is especially good if you live in California. You pay no sales tax and shipping is free which is usually next day if your order is early enough.

Re: Marine Depot

Unfortunately, their dry-goods side and their livestock side operate totally independently, and have completely different customer service. I have only good things to say about their dry-goods side.

Re: Marine Depot

Doni,

All of my fish that I didn't buy at the LFS were bought off of marinedepotlive.com, they have a very good track record with me, especially when I ordered my anthias. They emailed back and forth with me, and told me what the anthias were currently eating, and that they were in excellent shape. I also got my Yellow-eye Kole tang, Blue tang, and my Yellow watchman goby from them. Both tangs were in pristine shape. All of my orders were excellently packaged, all double bagged, some triple. I had also ordered my first few corals from them...a small ric colony, purple plate, and a zoo colony.

All in all my experience with them was great, and if I need anything else online I always keep them in mind.

Jason

Re: Marine Depot

Oh!

I also ordered my purple firefish from them, a squamosa clam, peppermint shrimp, and a cleaner shrimp. Forgot to add with all of my orders which I believe I used them 4 or 5 times, everything arrived alive and well.

Hope you experience great service with them as well.

Re: Marine Depot

Sorry for the tough luck Doni. I've used liveaquaria pretty much exclusively for my livestock (fish) orders, and I've received incredible customer service from them. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them. FWIW, I use marinedepot exclusively for dry goods, and they have been awesome as well.
I hope you find what you're looking for.
